In summer and in winter a visit to Tarvisio and its surrounding area is a great opportunity to know this interesting mix of cultures, different ways of life in the mountains, languages and yet big commonalities. The main local traditions come from Austria, since this area had been Austrian until the First World War. These roots are reflected also in the religious traditions, particularly in the municipality of Malborghetto: for example with the traditions of the Easter “Praitl”, the “Shapa”, the “scip sciap”, the “Konta” and many others. Visitors often do not understand the inner significance of these customs since the local population live them with a strong rural passion. In the Museum of local history of Malborghetto hosted in the Palazzo Veneziano traditions and customs of the Valcanale are superbly presented - also through videos performing the most important highlights of the valley.
Besides traditional customs the Tarvisio Region offers also numerous events which attract many visitors, particularly from Austria and Slovenia.
